It took six months to get bed bugs out of my house, but I did it and that was with chemical treatment.

Just wanted to chime in on the mattress covers. They are actually not plastic at all, but a light sturdy fabric. If you get the right covers from protect-a-bed they will have a bed bug proof zipper that’s been tested at the university level against other covers that make the same claim of being bed bug proof. Once on, consider them there for the life of your mattress. You will not notice they are on the mattress at all with just a fitted sheet on top.

I was worried the covers would be plastic when I first ordered them but they have proven to be invisible in terms of comfort. And I just want to clarify, bed bugs don’t live “in” your mattress really, but under the tags, in the seams and around the piping. They do often live in the the underside of box springs and if you have a platform bed, under the platform. It’s my opinion that platform beds are not worth keeping due to their complexity, if you are being treated for bed bugs with pesticides rather than heat treatment.
